The death of Springfield, Illinois, Mayor Timothy Davlin has been ruled a suicide

An autopsy this morning by the Sangamon County Coroner revealed that Davlin died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Police were called to the 53-year-old democrat's home yesterday after the mayor missed a court-ordered appearance in an estate matter.

Davlin was the mayor of Springfield since 2003 and was not seeking a third term next year.

Illinois State Police are still investigating his death.
