CHICAGO, Ill. -- Former Illinois House Republican leader Tom Cross has officially entered the race for State Treasurer.

Cross, of Oswego, had been minority leader for ten years before giving up the post a few weeks ago.

He told reporters in Chicago that he felt he could do more on a state-wide level as a fiscal watchdog and as a catalyst for turning the state around financially.

Cross will face a primary challenge from DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan, who is a Certified Public Accountant.

Senator Mike Frerichs of Champaign is running on the Democratic ticket.
