SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- Governor Pat Quinn signed 3 pieces of legislation Thursday regarding healthcare and safety.
The first law allows for more small businesses to join together to form a Healthcare Purchasing Group. This will allow them to to pool resources with other small businesses to to acquire affordable healthcare coverage for employees. The law takes effect January first.
"We are going to make sure that we extend and expand health coverage in our state for the people of Illinois," said Governor Quinn.
The second law requires Illinois hospitals to develop policies that promote breastfeeding. Hospitals will work with other organizations to provide new mothers with information about the benefits of breast milk.
Finally, Gov. Quinn also signed legislation allowing schools to teach junior high students the importance of CPR and AED safety through video instruction.
All three measures passed unanimously by the General Assembly.
