Several area schools are getting money to make their buildings safer.

On Friday, Governor Pat Quinn announced the grant awards from the Illinois School and Campus Safety Grant Program totaling $25 million.

The grants will help schools statewide enhance security measures like the purchase of reinforced doors shatter-resistant glass and physical locks.

Bloomington District 87 and Illinois State University received more than $100,000 each and Morton and Washington school districts received several thousand dollars as well.
