SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- On Wednesday, Bruce Rauner showed off just under 600,000 signatures of people who want term limits for members of the General Assembly.

The 1,600 pound, 36 foot long box of petitions was to be delivered to the State Board of Elections.

Rauner and his supporters have been leading the effort to put eight year term limits on state lawmakers.

"Serve the voters and then leave office," Rauner said. "We think that's fundamentally good government reform."

On Tuesday, Democrats in the Senate killed efforts to put a term limit question for statewide officers on the November ballot.
