PEORIA, Ill. -- A historic ship could be coming to Peoria.

The LST 325 is a landing ship that participated in D-Day.

It is currently docked in Evansville, Indiana but it soon could be docked on the Illinois River in Peoria.

Eric Turner of the Peoria City Council says he has not met anyone in Peoria who is opposed to bringing the ship to the River City.

"It'll generate visitors to the city. It'll generate income to the city," Turner said. "So, it's good. It's just a problem of getting the money to come here and hopefully we'll have enough private donors that'll help do that."

To get the ship here, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is asking for a $750,000 tourism grant.

The LST ship will be discussed Tuesday night at the Peoria City Council meeting.
