How the President can win votes, says Koehler

PEORIA, Ill. -- Back here at home, Democratic lawmakers appear to be in full support of President Obama's Thursday appearance at the Democratic National Convention.

State Senator Dave Koehler, (D) of the 46th District, says he expects the president to address big items like health care and balancing the budget.

But, Koehler says in order to really win over voters, it will take blurring party lines to do what's best for the country.

He says, in one word, President Obama needs to prove he can "compromise."

"I think that Obama needs to go back to that strength and needs to continue to talk about the fact that he is a problem-solver that wants to sit at the table, that wants to work things out," said Koehler. "The American public is tired of the gridlock. People say when are you going to stop bickering and get to addressing our problems, and they're right."
