Top Illinois Republicans have filed a federal lawsuit to overturn the state's new redistricting maps.
Those maps were created and approved by the Democrat-controlled General Assembly.
The GOP lawsuit contends that the redistricting map improperly disenfranchises minority voters, needlessly splits cities and counties among multiple districts, and pits GOP incumbents against each other strictly for political reasons.
But Republican State Senator Darin LaHood says proving that in court may not be easy.
Senator LaHood says he wants to see voters approve an amendment which would force redistricting to be done by a non-partisian group of citizens.
