CHICAGO, Ill. -- The office of Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. announced in a statement Thursday that the Congressman is at an "in-patient medical facility" and his undisclosed condition is "more serious" than originally assumed.

Jackson apparently went on leave on June 10th --a fact that wasn't revealed by his office until June 25th.

A statement released Thursday by his office said "we have been made aware that he has grappled with certain physical and emotional ailments privately for a long period of time."

What those emotional and physical ailments are has not been released, nor has the location of Jackson's "extended in-patient treatment."

His opponent in November's election, Republican Brian Woodworth, criticized Jackson, saying other politicians with medical problems have revealed more information.

"And I think Jackson has a responsibility to do that as well, not just for his constituents, but to dispel the rumors. There's a lot of rumors out there as to what's going on," said Woodworth.

Jackson's wife Sandi, a Chicago City Council member, has also
refused to comment about the Congressman's illness or his whereabouts.
