EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth (D-92nd District) is doing her part to make sure programs at Illinois Central College are not hurt by education funding cuts in Illinois.

Gordon-Booth held a forum on the issue Tuesday afternoon at ICC.

She was joined by State Representative Ken Dunkin (D-5th District) of Chicago, who is the Chairman of the House of

Both lawmakers said the budget issue was not created over night and won't go away over night.

"We're making those tough decisions," said Gordon-Booth. "We're making those decisions that folks did not want to make for the last 4 years. So we're doing the work that a lot of other folks just simply did not want to do."

"it is our stewardship in Springfield to see to it that we shift the dollars to what's needed the most where we can get the best return on our investment," said Dunkin.

Both Democratic State Representatives said Illinois college students can help their own cause by pressing lawmakers in Washington to hold the line on interest rates for student loans.
