SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A section of Interstate 39 could soon be named in honor of a fallen firefighter.

On Thursday the Illinois Senate approved a measure that would rename a stretch of Interstate 39 after fallen Hudson and Bloomington firefighter Chris Brown.

Brown was responding to the scene of an accident, when a passing semi-tractor trailer lost control and crashed.

The three mile section of interstate is between the Hudson exit and the Lake Bloomington exit, and would be named the Christopher R. Brown Memorial Highway.

Representative Dan Brady sponsored the resolution. The Illinois House approved the measure on Wednesday. It now heads to the governor’s desk.
