Legislative members appointed to Smith discipline committee

Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan announced his appointments to the committee that will determine what punishment State Representative Derrick Smith should receive.

The Chicago lawmaker is accused of accepting seven-thousand dollars to help a day care center get a state grant.

Smith has already pleaded not guilty to a federal bribery charge.

The state's action against him is separate and could result in expulsion.

The committee that will decide whether to recommend discipline to the full House.

Smith won the primary election a week after the charges were announced.

He says he will continue to run for his seat.
