PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria election officials are taking steps to avoid voter suppression as the upcoming November election nears.
The "Let Me Vote" campaign kicked off Monday night at the Gateway Building in Downtown Peoria.
The event was hosted by the League of Women Voters, with the goal of avoiding voter intimidation and misinformation.
Election officials said voters should be suspicious of any information receive regarding voting procedures.
"We're just trying to make sure people understand if they have questions or if they get something that looks a little fishy to contact either us or the county clerk's office," said Peoria Election Committee Executive Director Tom Bride.
"If you get anything in the mail, it may look legitimate," said Peoria Chapter Civil Liberties Union member Terry Matthews. "But if it's telling you to vote on a certain day or in a certain place, don't believe it. Call and ask."
Officials are asking voters to call the board of elections with any questions at 494-Vote (8683).
They can also visit CanIvote.org to find out if they are registered and the location of their polling place.
