SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- Additional funding is coming to families using the Special Supplemental Nutrition WIC program.

The Illinois Department of Human Services announced Monday a two dollar increase per child. The money will go towards the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.

WIC is a USDA-funded public health nutrition program created to reduce the nutritional risk of low-income women, infants, and children up to the age of five.
