CHICAGO, Il-- Governor Quinn signed the bill Monday that cuts the number of Regional School Superintendents from 44 to 35 state-wide.
Monday's action is part of a longer battle between the Governor and the Regional Superintendents.
Last year, he cut the pay of the Superintendents and has suggested the office be eliminated altogether.
Under the new bill, the minimum population requirement to have a regional Superintendent would increase to 61-thousand people.
Fulton and Schuyler Counties --which share a Superintendent -would have to annex to other counties under the new rules, as would Logan, Mason and Menard Counties.
