SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Governor Pat Quinn signed five new laws to support our service members during Veteran's Day at the Illinois State Fair on Sunday.

The laws are designed to specifically support the needs of women veterans and veteran-owned businesses. They also take steps to protect our military memorials.

Governor Quinn reinforced his agenda to honor everyone who has served our nation by quoting President Lincoln, who served in the Illinois National Guard.

"It's the duty of all of us, on the home front, to take good care of those who have been in battle," said Governor Quinn. "And we, in Illinois, his home state, need to embrace those words every single day."

Of the five bills, four take effect immediately. The final one, which increases penalties for damaging military memorials, goes into effect January 1, 2014.
