PEORIA, Ill -- Former Speaker of the House and Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich was in Peoria on Thursday.
Gingrich toured the Peoria Zoo ahead of a political fundraiser for state Senator Darin LaHood on Thursday evening.
While there, he commented on President Obama's speech in Galesburg on Wednesday.
Gingrich said the problems in America are real and it is unfortunate the President can't find a way to work with Congress to improve the country.
"I think if the President had had a bipartisan speech with members of the House and Senate with him, you could take it seriously, you could say 'gee this is about governing'. Yesterday unfortunately was about posturing and blaming and partisanship and you know the election is over," he said.
Gingrich also planned to visit Caterpillar before speaking at the fundraiser.
