June 18, 2014 Updated Jun 18, 2014 at 4:12 PM CDT

The percentage of Americans who approve of President Obama’s handling of foreign policy has dropped to the lowest level of his presidency.

An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows just 37 percent of Americans polled approve, while an all-time high of 57 percent disapprove of Obama’s foreign policy oversight.

The poll was conducted mostly before the militant Sunni surge in Iraq.

The president's overall approval rating is 41 percent, tied for an all-time low in the survey.
