PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria City Council unanimously approved the purchase of a $56,000 home at 1916 West Kettelle Street on the city's south side.

A Peoria police officer will live in the home full-time in an effort to curb violence in one of the highest crime areas of the city.

Peoria police hope to have an officer in the home by late summer.
