PEORIA, Ill. -- A move by Peoria City Council will help save the city money in the future.
Going into the 2014 budget, the council was looking at a roughly $3 million budget deficit.
However, Tuesday night the council was able to wipe out nearly half of that deficit by approving two contracts.
The contracts relate to the healthcare of city employees and cuts the deficit to about $1.8 million.
City manager Patrick Urich hopes to present the full budget to the council on September 27.
