One central Illinois man says he's ready to take on Springfield.

Steve Perry, a District 87 board member and Mass Communications Professor at Illinois State University, is the newest candidate in the race for 88th District State Representative.

During his announcement in Bloomington Monday morning, Perry says he's concerned about Illinois' future and stressed the desperate need for financial reform.

"The way pensions are paid in this state cannot be sustained," said Perry. "The simple truth is Democratic leaders in Springfield are drastically harming the future of our state, and it has to stop. We can turn things around, but we must address the mandates that are exploding our state and local budgets."

Perry also applauded State Representative Mike Tryon's "Sunshine Portal", saying government transparency in spending is exactly what Illinois needs.

"A lot more work needs to be done to achieve open government in Illinois," said Perry. "It's a key to finding the waste that has bloated our budget."
