SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A portion of Interstate 55, near Pontiac, will soon be called the Officer Casey J. Kohlmeier Memorial Highway.

Officer Kohlmeier and his K-9 partner Draco, were killed on October 30, 2013 when a drunk driver struck their vehicle on I-55.

On Wednesday, the Illinois Senate unanimously approved the interstate resolution.
