SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has gone ahead with plans to close two state facilities, including one in Central Illinois.
The Jacksonville center for people with developmental disabilities and a Tinley Park mental hospital are being closed---moving some 600 people from state to community institutions over the next 30 months.
About 550 people work at the two state facilities, and the Governor's office said closures would save nearly $20 million.
The Jacksonville facility is slated for closure by October of this year.
