SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Governor Pat Quinn has started his "grassroots" effort to get pension reform in Illinois by creating a website.
The site www.saveourstate.gov urges Illinoisans to contact their legislators to urge action on pension reform.
Quinn has called for raising state worker's retirement age, cutting cost-of-living increases for current employees, and giving them the choice of joining his plan or losing retirement health benefits.
He also wanted downstate school districts to begin paying their own pension bills.
Meetings between the leaders of the House and Senate and the Governor and an August 17 Special Session of the General Assembly yielded nothing.
The Illinois legislature isn't due to return to Springfield until after the November elections.
