WASHINGTON, DC --Charlotte, North Carolina Mayor Anthony Foxx has been unanimously confirmed by the Senate to be the next Secretary of Transportation.

Foxx is taking the place of the departing Ray LaHood. LaHood announced earlier this year that he would not serve on President Barack Obama's cabinet for his second term.

LaHood has said that he is not retiring from public service.
