SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford says he will officially announce a run for Governor this Sunday.
Rutherford has three stops planned for Sunday in Chicago, Springfield and his hometown of Pontiac.
The 58-year-old will be the first Republican to formally enter the race.
Rutherford has been hinting at a run for months, saying he was waiting for the right time to announce.
He will likely face several GOP rivals. State Senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and venture capitalist Bruce Rauner have all expressed interest.
Governor Pat Quinn says he will seek re-election in 2014.
