PEORIA, Ill. – Governor Pat Quinn today announced $12.3 million in state funding for a road improvement project on Allen Road in Peoria.

“Soon motorists on Peoria’s north side will be able to get to their destinations more conveniently and safely,” said Gov. Quinn. “This project will accommodate growth in the Peoria area, and will create jobs that will benefit the local economy.”

Allen Road and Alta Lane will be reconstructed from Townline Road to Alta Road. A bridge will be built over Illinois Route 6, and a tunnel will be constructed for the Rock Island Trail.

“I’m pleased that Governor Quinn made this project a priority,” said Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis. “Peoria is a city on the move, and this project will benefit anyone who lives, works or visits here.”

R.A. Cullinan & Son of Tremont was contracted to begin construction starting later this summer. They came in with the lowest bid of $12,356,385.

This project is a part of Gov. Quinn’s $31 billion “Illinois Jobs Now!” project, the largest construction project in Illinois’ history.
