A third wave of repairs on the McClugage bridge this week could mean more headaches for motorists.
IDOT operations engineer Shane Larson says eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane as crews spend the week doing routine maintenance.
That includes working on the under truss and replacing old rivets.
Larson says the holidays and bad weather forced them to postpone the project.
The hope is to complete the work this week, but Larson says progress has been slower than expected.
The goal of the project is to maintain the integrity of the bridge, which is more than 50 years old.
Larson says crews plan to end their day at 3:30 in the afternoon to make way for the evening rush.
