A week ago it was a nightmare with traffic down to one lane on the westbound side of the McClugage bridge. Then the Illinois Department of Transportation announced the eastbound side would be one lane today.

Illinois Department of Transportation workers began setting up the cones in the eastbound lanes this morning. The lane closure was supposed to happen at seven this morning, but crews waited until around nine to close the lane. That gave morning commuters a break.

The lane closure is expected to last until 3:30 this afternoon. Crews will close the lane again tomorrow from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. if they still have more work to finish.

Two of the westbound lanes were closed last Monday... which caused major traffic delays. The westbound work will last for another two months.

IDOT is doing joint repair on the bridge.
