From approximately 11 am to 11:30 am on Tuesday, westbound traffic did not have access to the Bob Michel Bridge.
The closure was due to elephants-- yes, elephants--crossing the bridge from East Peoria to Peoria for the upcoming Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Civic Center.
Their handlers guided them across the Bob Michel Bridge and into downtown Peoria where a crowd of parents and children awaited their arrival.
On Sunday evening, approximately 8 pm to 8:30 pm, eastbound traffic will witness the same event, as the elephants will be returning to the train loading area.
