On Monday, Governor Pat Quinn kicked off road construction season with a big announcement.

$100 million from the Illinois Jobs Now! construction program will be given to local governments across the state to improve roads. Of that $100 million, about $6 million will be handed out in central Illinois.

Quinn said spring pot holes are causing major safety issues.

"We invest every single year, but I think more than ever this year is the most important year given the severity of our winter, that we definitely make these investments with our partners in local government to make sure things are done right,” he said.

Central Illinois counties will also get about $33 million in Motor Fuel Tax funds.
