IDOT suspending non-emergency road work for 4th of July

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- With thousands of motorists expected to travel during the 4th of July holiday, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Monday that non-emergency traffic work will be suspended where possible.

IDOT has also provided advance notice of lane closures that will be in place for the holiday weekedn to aid motorists' travel plans and boost safety.

"To reduce potential roadway congestion and improve safety, wea re also providing a list of lane closures on our website, with a breakdown by county, to help motorists plan their trips," said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider.

Starting 3 p.m. July 3, IDOT will suspend all non-emergency road work for the holiday and open lanes where possible through midnight Wednesday, July 4.
