SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced Thursday that road work will be suspended where possible in order to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
"With high volumes of traffic expected during the holiday weekend, IDOT is suspending all the non-emergency roadwork where possible a providing a list of lane closures in advance to help motorists plan their trips," said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider.
Starting at 3 p.m. on April 6, IDOT will suspend all non-emergency road work and open all lanes where possible through midnight Sunday, April 8. Some construction zones may still have lane closures, depending on the projects.
