Motorists on I-474 in the vicinity of the Shade-Lohmann Bridge will experience a traffic shift beginning Thursday, September 22.
IDOT says the passing (left) lanes in both directions across the bridge will be closed so that road crews can install a concrete barrier wall.
Beginning approximately Saturday, September 24, traffic will be shifted to a new temporary alignment for maintenance work on the westbound portion of the bridge.
Traffic on westbound I-474 will experience a lane reduction during that time and will be routed onto a temporary median crossover just before the Shade-Lohmann Bridge. Westbound traffic will then continue over the eastbound span of the bridge in a two-way traffic pattern, separated by the barrier wall. After crossing the bridge, westbound traffic will be routed onto another temporary median crossover, back to the westbound side of I-474.
Eastbound I-474 traffic will experience a lane reduction and will use the existing driving (right) lane of the eastbound span to cross the bridge in a two-way traffic pattern, separated by the barrier wall.
IDOT says this traffic configuration will be in place until approximately mid-November.
Please watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway as well as workers near the center line of the road. Also, as always, motorists should slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
