PEKIN, Ill -- The Pekin City Council met Monday night for the first time since severe weather damaged the town eight days ago.
Pekin Mayor Laurie Barra said it was nice to return to a bit of normalcy and thanked the first responders who helped Pekin residents after the storm.
On Monday, police also lifted the curfew on the city's north side which should help the cleanup process.
"Cleanup is going fantastic," Barra said. "It's amazing. Even last Thursday, three, four days into it, it was a total difference. Now the houses of course that are devastated, they're still a mess, but it's starting to creep back to a little bit of normal."
A "Rock to the Rescue" benefit concert for Central Illinois tornado victims will take place Wednesday, December 4 at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
The concert features Styx and REO Speedwagon. Free tickets are available to those affected by the storm. Pekin residents should contact City Hall for more information.
