Pekin authorities say 150 homes damaged, 48 uninhabitable

PEKIN, Ill. -- The City of Pekin is continuing its cleanup efforts after Sunday's devestating tornado.

Pekin Police Detective Mike Eeten said that 150 homes were damaged in Pekin and 48 of those are uninhabitable. However, there have been no reports of major injuries and no deaths.

Authorities say that Ameren has line trucks working day and night to restore power to the area and they are hoping to have power restored in parts of the city within the next couple of days.

The Pekin Police Department continues to have a curfew in place from 9pm to 6am for areas north or Sheridan to Velde Dr. Pekin Police also continue to have heavy dedicated patrols in the areas damaged by the storms.

The Pekin Township building located downtown will continue to serve hot meals each day.

In addition, Pekin Police as well as the Pekin Fire Department continues to operate a 24 hour Command post close to the damage area.
