PEKIN, Ill. -- A Washington church seeks to better serve tornado survivors of Pekin, East Peoria and Roanoke.
Volunteers the from the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief set up camp in Pekin this morning. Food, toiletries, clothes, furniture and other supplies were distributed to tornado survivors.
"From the beginning, since everything happened in Washington, I think that people felt left out so our goal is let them know that they're not forgotten, and it also makes it easier," said relief organizer Dean Kennedy. "People without transportation don't have to drive all the way to Washington."
"It's just awesome to have someone donating all of these things for you. When you don't have anything, it means a lot," said tornado survivor and church volunteer Kim Adams.
The church just received its 14th truckload of donated items from the organization. The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief has donated more than five hundred thousand dollars worth of brand new supplies.
