EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Lifesource, a Chicago-land blood donation group, held a blood drive Saturday at the Eastside Center in East Peoria.

Those who gave blood at the drive will be able to enter one person in a football camp later this month hosted by members of the championship 85 Bears.

Former defensive lineman, Steve McMichaels was on hand signing autographs and showing off his super bowl ring for the cause.

"If it saves one persons life, that pint of blood, you're a hero," said McMichaels. "Isn't that what were all striving for, to make a difference in this world."

"The 85 Bears and Lifesource wanted to do something to give back to the community plus make people aware of the need for blood, especially during the summer months," said Lifesource spokesperson Tammy Basile.

According to the Red Cross, blood supply reached emergency levels in June with 50,000 fewer donations than last year.
