PEORIA, Ill -- Major changes are coming to health care next year and business owners are learning how they'll be affected.

The Peoria Chamber of Commerce held a workshop today for business leaders to learn about the impact the affordable care act will have on their business and employees.

Laura Minzer from the Illinois Chamber of the Commerce explained the changes that go into effect next year.

She encouraged the employers to communicate with their employees now to avoid confusion later.

"It's frustrating, it can be expensive,” said Minzer. “It can be a headache when you talk about what is a deductible, what is a premium. What is affordable, what's not affordable. This just adds a lot of layers, that from an employer’s standpoint can be a value in helping their employees navigate beyond just what is prescribed.

"There are a lot of forums for employers like today’s forum,” said Win Stoller, CEO of Widmer Interiors. “But then individuals are going to need to brush up on what they need to do for the individual mandate and the exchanges and how all that works."

Minzer will be back in Peoria for another session May 13th; there are seats still available.

The cost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for future members and lunch will be provided. Call Jolene at 495-5923 or jcole@chamber.h-p.org to register or reserve a seat online at http://peoriachamber.org/event/affordable-care-act-aca.
