Peoria-Area businesses donated this 1999 Ford Mustang to the police department and the local Crime Stoppers program.

The revamped car features American Racing Wheels, multiple red and blue lights, and a new police radio, among other upgrades.

Authorities say they hope it bridges the gap between them and the youth.

"That was the premise of the car," said Officer Doug Burgess, of the Peoria Police Department, "was just to use it as a way to get kids, or anybody for that matter, to come up and look and ask questions, hopefully, and find out that police aren't scary people or bad people."

The Peoria Police Department even entered the Mustang in a police vehicle design contest.
The decked out squad car is a finalist in the  "Community Relations Vehicle" catergory of the Law and Order magazine contest.
