Despite the cool, wet weather, golfers still found a reason to head out to Detweiller Park on Saturday.

Area golfers attempted to score a spot in the fifth annual Peoria Park District Long Drive Challenge.

For $10, participants got five shots to make the longest drive they could.

The top hitters will go on to the drive challenge finals on Monday.

Winners will receive an award and a merchandise gift card good at any Peoria Park District pro shop.

"I think the park district has a great ability to offer a variety of events such as the Longest Drive Challenge and some of our other tournaments, junior tournaments. Some of our women's tournaments and men's tournaments. We have a great opportunity to show Peoria that we can offer a great event and something fun for them,' said Kellogg Golf Course Manager Kyle Meger.

Last year's winner hit a 298 yard drive in the finals.

Monday's finals will be held at Donovan Golf Course at 6 p.m.
