Ashley Furniture returns to Peoria

November 24, 2010 Updated Nov 24, 2010 at 7:39 PM CDT

Just in time for the holidays, Peoria has officially welcomed a familiar business back to the heart of Central Illinois.

The Ashley Furniture Home Store opened its doors today.

You may recognize the name... It's not the first time Peoria's had an Ashley store at what's now the UFS building on Southwest Adams Street.

That Ashley store closed about 5 years ago due to the recession.

But despite the economy, owner Mike Bruegge says the new Northpoint Shopping Center location on Knoxville is the perfect spot for business.

"It's close to all the development and newer housing and expansion of Peoria right in this area. So, we felt with the help of all our other retailers here at Northpoint Plaza, it would be a perfect location, especially with Knoxville Avenue being so close to Route 6," Bruegge.

Bruegge says about 30 employees will work at the 50 thousand square foot store.

Ashley Furniture HomeStore will officially be open for business this Friday. Just in time for Black Friday shoppers.
