PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria Police continue to investigate an early morning shooting and car jacking incident on the East Bluff.

Authorities say around 7:00 a.m., a Chrysler 300, which was being warmed up, was stolen on the 700th block of East Ravine.

The owner, realizing his car was being stolen got into his other car, a Mercedes, and started chasing the suspects.

He then cut them off on the 1100th block of East Behrends and began firing shots at the suspects in the Chrysler with one of them hitting a female passenger in the chest.

The driver of the stolen Chrysler continued driving and crashed at the dead end of Nebraska and east of Prospect.

"What the hell was that? And I jumped up out of my seat because I had just sat down after my daughter walked out and I just pulled the door open and as soon as I opened the door, I saw a flash from the muzzle of the gun and that's when I started screaming for my daughter because she walks around the corner to get on the bus at Atlantic and Nebraska," said Hilary Spencer who witnessed the incident.

The owner of the stolen Chrysler is being questioned by Peoria Police. The female passenger was found nearby in a wooded area and taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver's whereabouts are unknown.
