PEORIA, Ill -- Tuesday night the Peoria City Council addressed the failing riverfront village parking deck structure.

The structure was built in 1998 and in 2010 it started to show signs of deterioration.

The council already paid to fix the steps, and before this year's 4th of July festivities along the riverfront the council approved temporary shoring as a safety precaution.

Tuesday the council approved continued shoring efforts while a consultant does some testing to assess the damage and what needs to be done to fix it.

The motions were approved with councilwoman Akeson the only "no" vote.

Akeson said the design has been flawed from the beginning, "I'm not in favor of throwing good money after bad and I think most of the people that I talked to think that that whole project has been regrettable and I would prefer to see it gone."
