PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria County sheriff's deputies are tossing in a contribution to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The Fraternal Order of Police #157 hosted their second annual Bags for Badges tournament in Peoria Sunday afternoon.
The bean bag tossing tournament raises money with a registration fee and through a silent auction and raffle.
Peoria County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Widdows said the tournament was planned a couple of years ago after some deputies visited the Children's Research Hospital.
"What we do is the deputies at Christmas time go down to the children's hospital in uniform and try to cheer up the kids at the Children's Hospital and give them a gift,” said Widdows. “We see a lot of kids, and the kids like seeing cops in uniform, so it brightens their day a little bit."
Last year Bags for Badges brought in $2,500. This year's tournament is expected to bring in about the same amount.
