PEORIA, Ill -- Children were invited to Bel-Wood Nursing Home to take part in that facility's annual Easter egg hunt today.

There was even an appearance by the Easter Bunny, courtesy of the peoria Elks Club.

The event gives Bel-Wood residents a chance to enjoy the holiday experience.

Kathy Haggard, Bel-Wood activity director explained the importance of the event for residents.

"It gives them a part of Easter that they don't always have with their families. Several residents don't have family in the area so we bring the kids out, some of them are wearing their Easter outfits," she said. "They can see them out here Easter egg hunting. And the residents are the ones who stuff the eggs. It took them a few hours to do it but they were happy and had a good time."

Children collected 2,000 eggs containing candy, coupons for prizes and even dollar bills.
