Friday is a sad day in Peoria, the last day that Emo's is open for the season.

The famed local ice cream stand on the corner of War Memorial and Prospect has been for sale since January. The current asking price is $1.4-million, but there are still no takers.

Jerry Vale has been visiting Emo's for over 40 years. He says he's optimistic someone will step forward and keep it open.

"They're not going to let Emo's go down," said Vale, "don't worry about that. Its too popular. People like it too much. It's a real part of Peoria's past."

But Janice Gomes, whose been leasing and running Emo's for the past 5 years, isn't as confident.

"I do not know what's going to happen. With the for sale signs out there you never know."

Gomes said the lines got long at times on Friday because people want to make one last trip to Emo's for treats before the place closes for the season.
