PEORIA- Former Illinois Governor Jim Thompson will be in a Peoria Courtroom, as early as next month to argue against the release of the names of firearm owner's ID cards.

Thompson was named to represent Illinois State Police in the court suit against the release of the names of Illinois residents with FOID cards.

Those records are kept by state police. The Attorney General's office issued an opinion that the names should be made public.

Judge Michael Brandt issued a temporary restraining order last month, which prevented the names' release. That came after the Illinois State Rifle Association filed a lawsuit against releasing the names.
