Not everyone slept in and relaxed this holiday morning, hundreds pounded the pavement in downtown Peoria.

The Peoria Jaycees 30th annual "Firecracker 5000" 5-K run-walk started and ended on Water Street in Peoria Monday morning.

Runners, joggers and walkers took to the streets bright and early at 7:30 to conquer the 3-point-one mile course.

One volunteer and participant tells us the race keeps growing every year.

"This is an amazing turnout. We had over 800 runners this year. This is my 10th year in being involved in the Firecracker 5000. this is the most we ever had," said Roxy Baker with the Peoria Jaycees.

Money raised from the firecracker will go to The Boys and Girls Club of Peoria... The Peoria Playhouse... and the Heart of Illinois Down Syndrome Association.
