BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Three Bloomington Firefighters were honored Tuesday for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Chris Brown, Jason Greer and Frank Radek were off duty on January 25 when they noticed a large amount of smoke in a Normal neighborhood.

The three firefighters quickly traced the smoke to a burning air conditioning unit, and warned the sleeping family inside.

On Tuesday, they were honored for their quick actions.

"To be recognized here and there does mean something, 'cause it gives us an extra mental push to keep going," said Radek.

The firefighters also saved the lives of the family's dog and four cats.
